Personal

Background
I was born in Austria in 1952 of Italian-Montenegrin descent. My family name means shark from the Italian word Pescecane, which I hope refers to that cute, harmless Mediterranean species, called Pescecane.

Language
I speak fluent English, French and German as well as conversational Italian.

I live
In and between Nice and Stockholm.

Education and work
I graduated from the High School of Journalism (Journalisthoegskolan) in Gothenburg in 1978. My first job, following an internship at the Arbetaren paper, was at the Dagens Nyheters editorial office in 1979.

After gaining experience in various temporary positions during the 80s I worked consistently as a freelancer for Dagens Nyheter up until 2008. I also worked at the Stockholmstidningen newspaper (it closed down in 1984), as well as a short-lived stint as sports journalist at Huvudstadspress (an incomprehensible experience both for myself and for the readers!).

Apart from being a freelance writer, I have been the editor of several magazines and publications, including the magazine NÄRA, for relatives of cancer patients, the educational publication ELSA for cancer care professionals and the scientific CASCADE Magazine. I have also written educational reports about equality, palliative care and cancer care for the swedish County Councils Association.

My book "Ett noll till livet - om att gå vidare efter cancer", published in 2004 by MBM editions is a series of interviews with people who have survived cancer. For many years I taught at Poppius, a well reputed school of journalism in Stockholm.
